Job summary

The State of Iowa, Iowa Department of Transportation, seeks a Highway Technician Associate to support roadside maintenance and safety tasks in Knoxville. You will patch roadways, repair guardrails and signs, manage vegetation, assist with traffic control, and service DOT equipment.

Residency within 45 minutes of the Knoxville garage is required within five months. Shift is 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with on-call duties for emergencies and possible overnight travel.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED (or equivalent).
• Total of four years of education and/or full-time experience in highway maintenance or equipment operation.
• CDL permit required upon hire; endorsements to be obtained within five months.

Responsibilities

• Patching roadway and repairing/maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways.
• Participating in traffic control for maintenance activities.
• Picking up and disposing of litter and debris.
• Operating snow equipment to remove snow, ice, and frost from roadways.
• Mowing, brush/weed/vegetation control, and spraying.
• Performing routine maintenance and servicing DOT equipment and vehicles.
