Job summary

The State of Iowa, Iowa Department of Transportation, is seeking a Highway Technician Associate to help keep Iowa roads safe and reliable. You will perform hands-on maintenance, patch roadways, repair guardrails, manage vegetation, and assist in snow removal, with a focus on safety and service to Iowans.

Residency within 45 minutes of Knoxville within five months, a 7:00 AM–3:30 PM shift, on-call duties during emergencies, and opportunities for training and advancement are part of the role.

Qualifications

• CDL permit required on hire.
• Class A CDL with endorsements within 5 months.
• Entry-level driver training provided.
• Pre-employment physical and drug screen.
• DOT Clearinghouse check completed.
• Pesticide/herbicide certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

• Patch roadway
• Repair and maintain guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways
• Participate in traffic control for maintenance activities
• Pick up and dispose of litter and debris
• Operate snow removal equipment
• Mow and spray vegetation
• Perform routine maintenance on DOT vehicles
