Job summary

The State of Iowa, through the Iowa Department of Transportation, is seeking a Highway Technician Associate to contribute to safer roadways and reliable transportation services for Iowans. The role focuses on hands-on maintenance, roadside operations, and adherence to safety standards.

You will work a 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM shift, with on-call requirements during emergencies and possible overnight travel. Residency within 45 minutes of Boone is required within five months of starting, and a CDL

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalency.
• Four years of education and/or full-time experience in highway maintenance or equipment operation could substitute a year of schooling.

Responsibilities

• Patching roadway.
• Repairing and maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts, and waterways.
• Participating in traffic control for maintenance activities.
• Picking up and disposing of litter and debris.
• Operating snow equipment to remove snow, ice, and frost from roadways.
• Mowing, cutting brush, weed, and vegetation control, and spraying.
• Performing routine maintenance and servicing DOT equipment and vehicles.
