Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled equipment operator to perform roadway maintenance and emergency response duties. You will operate light to heavy highway equipment, install pavement markings, and support manual labor tasks to keep roadways safe and functional.

This role requires CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months, ability to read plans, and strict adherence to MUTCD and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Must obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Experience with pavement markings and messaging operations.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and read/interpret work plans.
• Ability to read and interpret plans and sketches.
• Experience performing heavy manual labor.
• Knowledge of MUTCD and work zone safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Emergency operations including snow/ice removal and debris cleanup.
• Operate light to heavy highway equipment for maintenance and construction tasks.
• Install and maintain longitudinal pavement markings and pavement messages per MUTCD.
• Follow safety rules, wear PPE, and maintain clean, organized work sites.
• Maintain inventory records and complete required documentation.
