Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in Virginia is seeking crew members to perform equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor, plus emergency roadway operations as essential staff. You will operate light to heavy highway equipment, follow safety rules, maintain records, and apply MUTCD in work zones.

A CDL and DOT medical card are required within 11 months; teamwork and reliability are highly valued.

Qualifications

Effective oral and written communication required.
Must obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
Ability to read and follow instructions.
Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment and procedures.
Safety shoes required.
Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain light, medium and heavy highway equipment to perform maintenance and construction tasks.
Perform emergency roadway operations as an essential employee; snow/ice removal and debris clearance with traffic control.
Participate as a working crew member to complete projects and objectives; perform manual labor as needed.
Follow safety rules, use PPE, and apply MUTCD guidelines for detours and work zones.
Perform preventive maintenance and pre-trip inspections on vehicles/equipment.
Install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices in work zones; track inventory and records.
