Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an entry-level Maintenance Worker to support road and bridge upkeep under supervision. The role involves operating standard highway maintenance equipment, loading materials, and performing manual labor to keep right-of-ways clear and signage visible.

You will assist during inclement weather, conduct vehicle inspections, and work extended hours as needed.

Qualifications

• No minimum training or experience required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL Class A to be obtained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintenance of roads and bridges on the state highway system.
• Operate dump trucks and equipment to haul materials such as asphalt and gravel.
• Perform vegetation management and signage installation/repair.
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and document fleet safety procedures.
• Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations and extended hours.
• Work near traffic and environmental hazards and lift up to 50 lbs.
