Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker to operate and maintain medium duty equipment and perform roadway repairs across districts. You will clear right-of-ways, patch potholes, and repair drainage ditches while working with asphalt, soil, and gravel materials.

Responsibilities include flagging traffic, protecting workers, and assisting in emergencies or severe weather. A valid license is required, with CDL training due within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain medium duty equipment (dump truck, skid steer, belt loader, mower).
• Perform roadside maintenance (patching, drainage, shoulders, patching potholes).
• Flag traffic and protect workers and equipment during road repairs.
• Assist in emergencies and inclement weather operations, including on-call duties (24 hours).
• Operate additional equipment (backhoe, excavator, grader, slope mower, loader).
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
