Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a hands-on worker to perform skilled manual labor and operate medium equipment on state highways, including tandem dump trucks, large rollers, and skid steers. Duties cover grading, concrete work, traffic control coordination, and vegetation management to support road and bridge maintenance.

Qualifications

Six (6) months of related work experience or equivalent.
Requires valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

Performs skilled manual labor and operates medium equipment (tandem dump truck, large roller >4 tons, skid steer loader) for roads and bridges.
Grading, setting forms, pouring/finishing concrete for curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and driveways.
Coordinates placement of traffic control devices/signs and maintains work zones.
Operates power tools for sidewalk and curb work; conducts vegetation management.
Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations and may work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
