Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation in Virginia's highway maintenance division is seeking a maintenance worker who will operate a range of equipment to perform roadway upkeep and emergency snow/ice operations.

The role requires CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months, ability to perform heavy manual labor, and adherence to MUTCD and safety regulations; you will work on a crew to keep roads safe and pass inspections.

Qualifications

• CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, methods and procedures.
• Safety shoes required.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain light, medium and heavy-duty highway equipment and vehicles to perform maintenance and construction related work tasks.
• Emergency Operations: Operate and maintain light and medium-duty equipment to perform maintenance and construction related work tasks.
• Apply MUTCD for detours, lane closures, work zones, etc. Maintain clean, orderly and safe work environment.
• Job Safety: Identify workplace hazards and maintain safety rules and PPE; follow VDOT safety regulations.
• Manual Labor: Work as a crew member to complete projects and accomplish objectives; perform maintenance tasks as needed.
• Preventative Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs; complete pre-trip inspections for vehicles/equipment.
