Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance worker to operate and maintain medium motorized equipment used in roadway maintenance, including equipment such as Aggregate Spreader, Belt Loader, various tractors, large skid steer, and tandem dump truck. You will perform maintenance tasks across driveways, drainage structures, signs, and right-of-way areas.

Qualifications

Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement.
Physical requirement: able to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain medium motorized equipment used in roadway maintenance (e.g., Aggregate Spreader, Belt Loader, tractors, large skid steer loader, tandem dump truck).
Perform maintenance tasks across driveways, drainage structures, signs, debris removal, and right-of-way activities.
Assist in backhoe operations for clearing of rights-of-way, drainage maintenance, and material movement.
Conduct traffic control operations for work zones, including lane closures, flagging, and detours for crew and public safety.
