Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking personnel for field maintenance roles in Charleston. You will operate dump trucks, rollers, and tractors with mowers, and perform diverse road maintenance tasks such as drainage work, curb and guardrail repairs, patching potholes, and paving where needed.

Responsibilities include traffic control in work zones, assisting during emergencies and inclement weather, and being available for after-hours on-call shifts.

Qualifications

• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
• Within six months of placement, attainment of a Class A CDL is required.
• There are no minimum training or experience requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operate small equipment such as dump trucks, pneumatic rollers, and tractors with mowers.
• Perform manual labor for maintenance tasks including drainage, pothole patching, curb work, and guardrail replacement.
• Lay pipes and construct drainage structures; perform traffic control and flagging in work zones.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations and be on-call after hours.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
