Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking workers to perform skilled manual labor and operate medium‑duty equipment on state highway projects, including roads and bridges. Responsibilities include vegetation management, inspections, traffic flagging, and snow/ice removal.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required; Class A CDL must be obtained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operates Skid Steer and other medium-duty equipment for road and bridge work.
• Performs pre-trip inspections and follows fleet safety rules and procedures.
• Flags traffic during road repairs to protect workers and the public.
• Operates chain saw for tree trimming on right-of-way.
• Removes snow and ice using dump trucks and brine applications.
• Cleans litter and debris and performs related duties as assigned.
