Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled Equipment Operator to support highway maintenance and construction projects. You will drive a 5-yard CDL dump truck and flatbed, hauling materials such as limestone, pipe, and asphalt, and assist with heavier equipment as needed.

Candidates should hold a Class A CDL and be prepared for outdoor, physically demanding work in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and ability to obtain within six months of placement.
• Experience operating heavy construction and maintenance equipment used on state roadways is preferred.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate 5-yard CDL dump and flatbed trucks for shoulder work, pothole repairs, paving, and material hauling.
• Assist with heavier equipment and emergency operations, including after-hours incidents and inclement weather.
• Perform routine maintenance checks, use hand tools, and maintain clean, safe work areas.
• Flag traffic as needed to protect workers and the public during road repairs.
