Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Equipment Operator to perform a variety of road construction tasks. You will operate standard dump trucks and flatbed trucks to haul asphalt, limestone, dirt, and other materials, and you will help build drainage structures and repair road shoulders.

The role requires bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and standing for long periods; a valid driver's license is required on entry and a Class A CDL must be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required on entry.
• Class A CDL must be obtained within six months.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• May require overtime, nighttime, and/or weekend work during hazardous weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate small equipment such as standard dump truck and flatbed trucks for hauling materials.
• Perform manual labor in building catch basins, pouring concrete for curbs and raised median, laying pipes for driveways and other drainage structures.
• Repair potholes and base surface using hand tools to level asphalt as needed.
• Flag traffic during road repairs to control flow and protect workers, public and equipment.
