Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled operator to manage heavy equipment and assist with asphalt paving, drainage installation, and concrete work. You will patch potholes and spread asphalt, while coordinating traffic control for safe work zones.

Requirement includes a valid driver’s license and the plan to obtain a Class A CDL within six months. Applicants may work extended hours during inclement weather or emergencies.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience or an approved equivalence.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of placement.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Operates medium equipment such as tandem dump trucks hauling materials to and from job sites.
• Operates large roller during asphalt paving operations.
• Operates belt loader for shoulder maintenance projects.
• Installs culvert pipe and constructs catch basins, pours concrete.
• Patches potholes and uses asphalt tools for spreading and leveling asphalt.
