Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a maintenance worker to operate tandem dump trucks, large rollers, and skid steer loaders for roadway and right-of-way maintenance.

Responsibilities include patching, sign and pavement markings, shoulder and ditch work, vegetation management, and assisting with traffic control per MUTCD. A Class A CDL must be obtained within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operates tandem dump truck, large roller (4 tons), and skid steer loader for maintenance tasks.
• Performs patching, limb and brush trimming, sign and pavement marking maintenance, shoulder and ditch work.
• Assists in placing traffic control devices per MUTCD; conducts pre-trip inspections; participates in snow/ice removal as needed.
• Works with a crew performing roadway and right-of-way maintenance, using manual labor and power tools as required.
• May work outside normal hours during inclement weather or emergencies; complies with safety rules.
