Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking an Equipment Operator to operate and maintain road maintenance equipment across multi-phase projects in the Charleston area. The role involves driving and operating large machinery, performing related maintenance tasks, and ensuring safety in work zones.

Applicants should have at least six months of related experience and must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains medium motorized equipment such as Aggregate Spreader, Belt Loader, Tractor with mower, Skid Steer, and Tandem Dump Truck.
• Performs maintenance tasks including residential driveway work, drainage structures, signs, and debris removal.
• Assists in backhoe operations for drainage maintenance and material movement.
• Conducts traffic control in work zones including lane closures, flagging, and detours for safety.
• Uses electric/gas-powered tools (e.g., chain saw, drills, jacks, wrenches, pavement breakers, compressors, pumps, generators) as needed.
• Supports Emergency Operations and is on-call for after-hour emergencies.
