Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking personnel for road maintenance operations in South Carolina. The role involves operating and maintaining a range of medium-duty equipment, performing ditch cleaning, pothole repairs, paving driveways, and laying pipe as part of routine road maintenance.

Responsibilities include traffic control during repairs, assisting in emergencies, and working with backhoes, graders, and other heavy machinery.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains medium-duty equipment such as tandem dump trucks, skid steer loaders, aggregate spreaders, self-propelled belt loaders and combination tractors with side-mounted mowers.
• Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic to protect workers and the motoring public.
• Operates and maintains hand tools and electric/gas powered tools such as chainsaws and pole saws in roadway maintenance.
• Assists in emergencies and inclement weather operations, including being on-call 24 hours a day.
• Assists in operating backhoe, excavator, motor grader, slope mower and tractor with ditcher.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
