Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a general highway maintenance worker to perform a variety of construction and repair tasks on state highways. You will operate a tractor with mower, skid steer, and tandem dump truck, and assist with traffic control and routine road preservation work.

Requirements include at least six months of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and CDL within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or equivalent.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• CDL required within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium equipment and perform highway maintenance tasks on state roadways.
• Grade, form, pour and finish concrete for curbs, gutters, sidewalks as assigned.
• Position traffic control devices and set up maintenance work zones per SC DOT guidelines.
• Assist in emergency, inclement weather operations and after-hours calls as needed.
