Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Equipment Operator to support the Drainage and Vegetation Crews. You will operate medium motorized equipment, perform flagging in work zones, and assist with maintenance and repairs across varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities include on-call emergency support, potential extended shifts, and adherence to safety protocols while handling diverse equipment and traffic management duties.

Qualifications

• 6 months of related work experience or equivalent.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of placement in the position.

Responsibilities

• Operate drainage crew equipment (e.g., Aggregate Spreader, Belt Loader, Tandem Dump Truck, tractor with mower).
• Perform traffic control and flagging in work zones for crew/public safety.
• Carry out manual labor in vegetation maintenance and repairs.
• Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations; be on call for after-hour emergencies.
• May be required to work extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
