Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled equipment operator to support roadway maintenance operations. You will operate tandem dump trucks, loaders, and other heavy machinery to load and haul earth materials and support drainage projects.

The role requires a valid driver's license and the within-six-month CDL plan, plus the ability to work outdoors in varying weather. This is a physically demanding, safety‑critical position with potential schedule variations.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Requires attainment of a Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate mid-size equipment such as tandem dump trucks and skid steers.
• Load and haul materials like asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, and pipes.
• Flag traffic and ensure safety per MUTCD standards.
• Perform maintenance and repairs on equipment and tools.
• Work outside normal hours, including emergencies and severe weather.
• Assist in drainage work and road maintenance projects.
