Job summary

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highway Maintenance – District 1, seeks a Highway Maintainer III to perform skilled year‑round highway maintenance using heavy equipment and to supervise entry level staff. Location options span multiple sites within District 1.

Minimum qualifications include a CDL-A with no air brake restrictions, a high school diploma or equivalent, and the ability to lift 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 1 year of education and experience after completion of high school.
• License/Certification: Valid Commercial Driver's License, Class A (CDL-A), with no air brake restrictions
• MVR must meet minimum standards as established by the Department of Transportation.
• Pre-employment urinalysis drug screen per US DOT requirements.
• Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs intermittently.

Responsibilities

• Operates and troubleshoots complex highway maintenance equipment and vehicles used in construction and maintenance.
• Supervises and reviews the work of entry level personnel and small crews.
• Responds to winter maintenance needs and determines plowing and de-icing actions.
• Ensures safety and environmental practices during maintenance work.
• Must be available 24 hours per day for winter maintenance and traffic emergencies.
