Job summary

State of New Hampshire’s Department of Transportation seeks a Highway Maintainer III to perform skilled year-round maintenance using complex equipment. The role supervises entry-level staff and crews and ensures safety, environmental, and quality standards are met on NH State Highway System.

The position requires a CDL-A license and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, with on-call responsibilities for winter and emergency operations. A trainee pathway is available with CDL-B to CDL-A progression.

Qualifications

• Equivalent combination of 1 year of education and experience after completion of high school.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License, Class A (CDL-A) with no air brake restrictions.

Responsibilities

• Operates and troubleshoots complex highway maintenance equipment, including snow and ice removal and road maintenance.
• Supervises entry level personnel and small crews; ensures safety and environmental practices.
• Responds to winter maintenance and traffic emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
• Maintains equipment and performs repairs to ensure serviceability and reliability.
• Trains and reviews work of others to ensure compliance with department policies.
