Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintenance Supervisor to oversee a crew performing asphalt, patching, and related maintenance on state roads and bridges in the county/district.

Lead operations with various equipment, ensure safety and proper documentation, and coordinate traffic control for work zones. Requires a valid driver’s license and CDL Class A within six months, with 3.5 years of related experience and the ability to work extended hours as needed.

Qualifications

• 3.5 years of related work experience
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required
• CDL Class A within 6 months of placement

Responsibilities

• Supervises highway maintenance crew in asphalt patching, full depth and concrete patching to maintain state roads and bridges
• Operates, maintains and trains employees in the safe operation of heavy equipment and tooling used in roadway maintenance
• Maintains weekly and monthly reports and enters information into HMMS; prepares personnel actions and performance evaluations
• Sets up traffic control operations for work zones, lane closures and detours; responds to road emergencies on a rotating on-call schedule
