Job summary

State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a supervisory highway maintenance worker to lead a crew performing asphalt patching, concrete repairs, and roadside maintenance on state roads and bridges. Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment, setting up traffic controls, and maintaining safety and performance records.

The role requires a Class A CDL within six months, 3.5 years of related experience, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Three and a half years of related work experience.
• Must hold a valid Class A CDL within six months of placement.
• Able to perform strenuous physical labor and operate/inspect highway maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

• Supervises a crew of highway maintenance workers on asphalt/patching, roadway repairs, and related duties.
• Sets up traffic controls for work zones and ensures safety for crew and public.
• Maintains reports, time sheets, and HMMS data; coordinates with supervisor on personnel actions and performance evaluations.
• Responds to road emergencies on a rotating on-call schedule and participates in after-hours work as needed.
