Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s PennDOT is seeking a CDL Operator to operate highway maintenance equipment, perform manual labor, and support public safety along Pennsylvania roadways. This hands-on, outdoor role involves vehicle operation, flagging, and basic repairs as part of routine maintenance.

Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with seasonal adjustments; starting salary is $45,888 per year, with potential for overtime and advancement within the Commonwealth of

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program or Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Special Requirements: active CDL with Air Brake Restriction removed, active Medical Examiner’s Certificate, Tank Vehicle Endorsement, and potential endorsements/certifications for equipment.
• Additional Requirements: Drug and Alcohol testing; ability to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, loaders, and other equipment safely and efficiently
• Maintain required CDL credentials and perform daily pre/post operation checks
• Perform flagging duties to guide traffic when not operating equipment
• Carry out manual labor such as cleaning culverts, brush cutting, erecting signs, and repairing guiderails
• Make minor repairs, perform preventative maintenance, and assist mechanics
• Follow safety procedures and report hazards to protect coworkers and the public
