Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Task Leader for highway design within the New England Transportation team. The role can be based in Boston, MA, East Hartford, CT, or Manchester, NH, leading complex projects and mentoring junior engineers.

You will guide design development, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver innovative transportation solutions. Travel up to 10% may be required, with a strong emphasis on technical excellence and client service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 10 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the technical advancement of highway design projects and ensure technical accuracy throughout the lifecycle.
• Provide day-to-day oversight of transportation planning and design projects, meeting milestones and quality standards.
• Supervise, review, and mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and growth opportunities.
• Develop project design criteria, alignments, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Collaborate with Project Technical Leaders and Project Managers to deliver high-complexity projects.
• Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and sign/seal when required.
• Perform site reviews and studies to align designs with location specifications.
• Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to client RFPs and review for adherence to standards.
