Job summary

The NC Department of Transportation is hiring a District Inspector in Nash County to conduct independent inspections of driveway permits and encroachments, review safety and environmental items, and perform routine to moderately complex inspections of roadway and utility construction processes and materials to ensure compliance with contract agreements, standards and specifications.

Qualifications

• Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
• Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of construction inspection and surveying concepts.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent inspections of driveway permits and encroachments; review safety and environmental items; perform routine to moderately complex inspections of roadway and utility construction processes and materials to ensure compliance with contracts.
• Evaluate and apply engineering judgment to plan interpretation; maintain positive communication with technicians, engineers, contractors and the public.
• Traverse rough terrain in evaluating highway construction; apply safety philosophy to all operations.
• Maintain daily records of work accomplished; ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
• Must be able to legally operate a state vehicle.
