Job summary

The NC Department of Transportation in North Carolina seeks an Engineering Specialist I in Marion Construction Office to lead project inspection on large highway projects, coordinating with engineers to ensure adherence to plans, specs, and safety requirements.

You will monitor contractor operations, supervise technicians, review tests and environmental permits, and resolve construction issues while maintaining documentation and public communication.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in engineering technology with six years of progressive technician experience.
• High School or GED with eight years of progressive technician experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead project inspector for Marion Construction Office on highway projects.
• Monitor contractor operations to ensure compliance with plans, specs and permits.
• Supervise and train lower-level technicians and CEI staff.
• Review test reports and ensure proper sampling and documentation.
• Oversee environmental permitting and compliance with permits.
• Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, utility owners and property owners.
• Read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions and drawings.
