Job summary

The City of Charlotte’s Transportation Department is seeking a Construction Inspector to ensure roadway projects meet city, state, and project standards. This role requires expertise in civil construction practices, plan reading, and field inspections of asphalt, concrete, drainage, and traffic-related works.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED with relevant field experience, be proficient in plan reading and record-keeping, and be prepared for weekend or night work.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections of roadway construction to ensure compliance with plans, specs, erosion control, storm water, and safety requirements.
• Inspect projects for improvements such as sidewalks, drainage, paving, and utilities per plans.
• Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public and agencies and advise on corrective actions.
• Prepare daily progress reports with photos documenting materials and work.
• Prepare monthly pay estimates and maintain records.
