Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a Construction Inspector to join the Construction, Survey and Utility Division. The role focuses on inspecting roadway construction projects for compliance with city and state standards, applying civil engineering principles and field inspection techniques.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED and relevant field experience, plus the ability to read plans, perform basic surveying, and work weekends or nights if needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required with relevant field experience.
• Experience inspecting roadways and understanding construction plans is preferred.
• Must have or be able to obtain necessary city/county certifications.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections on roadway projects to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and standards.
• Inspect sidewalks, drainage, paving, and utilities as per contract requirements.
• Prepare daily reports with photos documenting progress and issues.
• Prepare monthly pay estimates and maintain project records.
• Respond to inquiries from the public and contractors; coordinate corrective actions.
• Possess strong plan-reading and basic surveying skills; support project teams.
