Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation in Gail, TX seeks a Maintenance Section Supervisor I to oversee the Abilene District maintenance office. You will supervise staff, coordinate contractor work, and ensure safe, timely maintenance of roads and rights-of-way.

The role requires strong leadership, visibility in public relations, and the ability to manage emergencies and budgets while promoting safety standards across district operations.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Grad or Equivalent.
• Experience: 7 years roadway maintenance or construction-related work.
• Substitution: related college education or technical training may substitute for experience.
• License: Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a state vehicle; CDL-A required within 120 days.

Responsibilities

• Administers and inspects contracted maintenance activities.
• Handles public complaints.
• Inspects road conditions, work in progress and work completed by crews.
• Plans, coordinates and implements emergency response to inclement weather, flooding, accidents and hazmat spills.
• Plans, schedules and coordinates work project needs with Area Engineer and district staff.
• Prepares and monitors the budget.
• Prioritizes and assigns projects and ensures safety guidelines.
