Job summary

Jefferson County's Highway Department is hiring a skilled maintenance worker to operate a variety of road construction and maintenance equipment, performing paving, shoulder work, drainage tasks, and vegetation management to keep roads safe and passable.

The role requires a high school diploma with three years of related experience, with four years and a Class A CDL preferred. Starting pay is $26.90 per hour, and a range of health, retirement, and savings benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with three years related experience and/or training.
• Four years related experience and/or training preferred.
• Class A CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate light and heavy road maintenance equipment for paving, shoulders, grading, sweeping, sealcoating, patching, and striping.
• Perform shoulder to right-of-way maintenance: remove debris, cut brush, mow roadsides, and manage vegetation.
• Inspect and maintain culverts, drainage structures, catch basins, and clear debris from streams and ditches.
• Prepare safe work sites and clears hazards.
• Perform winter maintenance and shop maintenance.
