Job summary

FedEx Freight in Aurora, IL is seeking a CDL‑A driver to operate tractor‑trailer combinations, including doubles or straight trucks, and to pick up and deliver trailers between service centers and turn‑points. The role may include non‑driving duties such as forklift operation and dock work.

You will complete pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, maintain logs, follow dispatch instructions, and ensure hazmat placarding matches shipments.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Class A CDL or a CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must have acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT FMC regulations under 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of ~100 pounds multiple times daily.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and move as required.
• Follow instructions and complete required training.
• Work independently and/or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations including doubles and straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service.
• Where needed, perform city driver or freight handler duties.
• Operate freight handling equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck as required.
• Chain vehicle tires as needed.
• Follow all laws/regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as required.
