Position: Road Maintenance Worker/Crew Leader

Responsibilities
The Road Maintenance Worker/Crew Leader is responsible for maintaining all roads and bridges in the KTTT reservation and county roads that are in the tribal inventory with heavy duty equipment. Duties include patching broken or eroded pavement and repairing guard rails, highway markers. May also mow or clear brush from along road, or debris from roadway. Employee shall follow safety standards as well as tribal policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING
- Operate tools and equipment within machine capacity to perform road and bridge repair, maintenance and construction; fabricate, replace or repair signs and remove or trim roadside vegetation interfering with road or driver safety.
- Clean culverts, dig ditches, rakes asphalt, patches potholes, fills cracks, clears brush and perform other general labor jobs as assigned.
- Provide traffic control including sign placement and flagging to guide traveling public safely through work zones while protecting co-workers.
- Perform routine machinery maintenance and preventive care.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to manager immediately.
- Ensure a maximum level of professionalism and satisfaction is achieved and maintained with employees and tribal members
- Lead responsibilities include assigning, reviewing, and coordinating the work of a small crew.
- Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor.

- Considerable knowledge of safety practices and techniques in heavy machinery.
- Shall have ability to perform all tasks with accuracy.
- Shall be able to work with little supervision.
- Shall be self-motivated and willing to work with others and able to work under pressure.
- Shall possess a positive attitude.
- Mathematics: Ability to perform simple arithmetic for time-keeping and measuring calculations.
- Language & Communication: Ability to read, write, speak and understand English, and communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal direction.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment.
- Cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs and way of life.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
This position does carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. One (1) year experience on operation of heavy-duty machinery.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in pavement marking, highway construction, asphalt paving, or a related field, is preferred.
Native American preference is observed
