Job summary

Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas is seeking a Facilities Technician to perform skilled maintenance, repairs, and installations in tribal facilities. This role involves wall repairs, painting, minor plumbing or electrical work, and maintaining tools and records.

You will follow the Facilities Work Order system, coordinate with the Maintenance Manager, and ensure safety and accuracy while supporting prevention and routine upkeep.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of manual and electrical tools and equipment applicable to the trade.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing or HVAC systems.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and paint damaged walls or structures.
  • Build, construct or repair walls, shelving, and perform preventive maintenance where needed.
  • Install or repair floor tile, ceiling tile, or carpet.
  • Repair roof leaks.
  • Repair plumbing equipment and all kinds of plumbing leaks or repairs inside or outside of all buildings.
  • Able to make minor repairs or modifications as instructed by electrician, plumber and HVAC specialist.
  • Maintains assigned equipment and tools for availability and safe operating condition.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies and assures that an adequate supply is always available.
  • Perform such other tasks as assigned by Maintenance Manager or Supervisor.

Position: Facilities Technician

Supervisor: Facilities Director/Supervisor

Division: Tribal Reservation Services Administration

Department: Facilities/Building

Responsibilities

Perform skilled mechanical maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, installation and alteration of carpentry painting or maintenance. Such as wall repairs and painting, minor plumbing or electrical work in all areas. Responsible for inventorying tools cleaning work areas testing equipment. Plus, any other activities as required or requested by Supervisor.

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following
  • Repair and paint damaged walls or structures.
  • Build, construct or repair walls, shelving, and perform preventive maintenance where needed.
  • Install or repair floor tile, ceiling tile, or carpet.
  • Repair roof leaks.
  • Repair plumbing equipment and all kinds of plumbing leaks or repairs inside or outside of all buildings.
  • Able to make minor repairs or modifications as instructed by electrician, plumber and HVAC specialist.
  • Provides general and detailed maintenance, including patching, painting, hardware repairs and other repair/replacement work as required.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and tools for availability and safe operating condition.
  • Follows the Facilities Work Order system.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies and assures that an adequate supply is always available.
  • Paint and fill gaps or crevices (on walls, sidewalks etc.)
  • Identify and report the need for major repairs.
  • Well-organized and apt in problem-solving.
  • Keep records of all maintenance and repair work conducted, including a record of any supplies ordered and used.
  • Ensure all routine maintenance work is handled on a regular schedule to reduce the risk of larger and more complex issues and to reduce costs.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Perform such other tasks and duties as may be assigned from time to time by Maintenance Manager or Supervisor.
Knowledge, skills and abilities for the position
  • Knowledge of manual and electrical tools and equipment applicable to the trade.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing or HVAC systems.
  • Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
  • Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Ability to use computer and provide written reports of activities for the purpose of documenting or conveying information when needed.
  • Watching gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Mathematics: Ability to perform simple arithmetic for measuring and other calculations.
  • Language & Communication: Ability to read, write, speak and understand English, and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal direction.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to exercise independent and sound judgment.
  • Cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Kickapoo traditions, religious beliefs and way of life.
Supervision exercised

This position does/does not carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Education/experience requirements

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or graduation equivalent diploma (GED)

At least two years of experience in the maintenance field.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous work-related experience is preferred.

Native American preference is observed
