Position: Teacher Aide (Tutorial)
Supervisor: Academic Services Manager or Designee
Division: Tribal Education Administration
Department: Tribal Education
Responsibilities

Responsible for assisting Teachers in the planning, preparing, and implementing the applicable curriculum of the classroom and overseeing daily activities as related to the classroom. This includes but is not limited to assisting students with assignments, projects, activities, indoor and outdoor learning activities, meal or snack time activities, and student transportation duties as applicable. Competency to provide effective and nurturing teacher-student interactions, plan and implement learning experiences that ensure effective curriculum implementation and use of assessment and promote student’s progress with regard to the Education Administration’s standard, including students with disabilities and dual language learners, as applicable.

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following:
  • Preparing learning materials and equipment, such as books, arts and crafts, stationery, and other supplies as needed.
  • Interacting with children to provide guidance, emotional support, and motivation to complete tasks.
  • Maintaining an organized and clean classroom environment and ensuring students conduct themselves appropriately.
  • Ensuring that all program rules, policies, and guidelines are adhered to in the classroom.
  • Plans, organizes, and ensures at the start of each day all activities are ready when students arrive.
  • Greets and acknowledges student when they arrive, while also following drop-off policies and procedures within the program.
  • Assist students, individually or in small groups, with homework supervision
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, cafeteria, playground, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive enriching environment.
  • Assist students during snack time and/or mealtimes
  • Enforce cleanup activities between transition times (from classroom to playground) by modeling appropriate behavior.
  • Performs general clerical tasks (e.g. laminating, making posters, making copies, bulletin boards, filing, newsletters, etc.) for the purpose of helping the Program.
  • Provide an environment of comfort and security for students by indulging in nurturing behavior.
  • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, appropriate and/or inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, change in behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to the appropriate program staff
  • Monitors attendance to ensure Student-Teacher ratio is within the standards of the program and supports where needed
  • Manages discipline, utilizes the Incident Report form when needed and brings concerns to the attention of applicable Program Management
  • Maintains first aid kit and follows health and safety procedures established for the Education Administration program
  • Follows procedures for late pickup and utilizes applicable forms and documentation resources
  • Support services and individualization activities for children.
  • Provide feedback to classroom teacher in the area of individualization documentation.
  • Support the development of the weekly lesson plans by providing input as to his/her classroom observations of individual children or groups
  • Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups
  • Support a healthy and nurturing environment for all children.
  • Maintain current emergency information for all students who attend the program
  • Provide First Aid/CPR as required.
  • Help children feel safe and comfortable while being transported, when applicable.
  • Properly label and follow sanitation requirements for the program.
  • Assist children into and out of the bus where applicable
  • Assist with food sanitation requirements during field trips and/or education events
  • Assist teacher in establishing an open and ongoing communication with parents.
  • Attend workshops, conferences and all in-service trainings.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Maintain training hours and documentation as required.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as instructed by supervisor.
  • Maintain regular attendance and notify supervisor when absent and/or late.
  • Perform such other tasks as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor.
  • Assist teacher in planning for individual needs of students
  • Assist by reinforcing activities for students in collaboration with teacher.
  • Support and implement appropriate redirection practices to assist all students
  • Assist teacher with daily documentation in reference to daily observations.
  • Release students from the program to parents, guardians or to persons who have been designated by the parents/guardians and that are documented in the student’s file.
  • Serve as an information liaison between the Tribal Student Services staff and the parents/guardians
  • Provide a supportive and inclusive environment for all students
  • Assist teacher with documentation and record keeping
Knowledge, skills and abilities for the position:
  • The candidate should be able to work with culturally and economically diverse students and have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Kickapoo families, employees, and other professionals.
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic for demonstrative calculations.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English and communicate effectively with others.
  • Speak and write in English
  • The employee must be able to communicate with Kickapoo Tribal members.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal direction.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage and maintain security of confidential data and information.
  • Ability to work effectively without extensive supervision.

Education/experience requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree or 45 college hours leading to a degree in Education or related field. Experience working with school aged students

Preferred Qualifications: A Bachelor of Arts Degree, or bachelor’s degree in education or related filed preferred.
