Job summary

Asotin County is seeking a Road Operator in the Public Works Department. The role involves heavy equipment operation for road and bridge maintenance, with tasks including grading, backhoe work, weed spraying, and material handling.

Position requires CDL Class A and WA licenses, plus ability to work in varied weather and shifts. Full-time, 40 hours weekly, with benefits including multiple medical plans, dental, vision, pension, and paid holidays.

Qualifications

• Requires the ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment safely.
• Demonstrates knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.

Responsibilities

• Operates a road grader to contour road surface and perform finish grading.
• Operates a backhoe to clean culverts and ditches.
• Runs weed sprayer, chip spreader, and oil distributor to achieve desired results.
• Operates a bulldozer for earthmoving and road construction/maintenance.
• Loads materials with a loader and assists in material handling on trucks.
• Performs preventative maintenance and assists mechanics as needed.
• Undertakes manual road and bridge maintenance tasks.
• Maintains roadside vegetation using mowing equipment and herbicide applications as required.
• Maintains a bare zone for roadside fire protection.
