Job summary

Spokane County invites applicants for a Regular position in the County Road department. The role involves operating heavy equipment, performing bridge and culvert work, and constructing and repairing various structures.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, 3 years of related experience, and the ability to obtain NCCCO certification. A Class A CDL with tanker endorsement is preferred, with training provided if needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of work experience.
• Carpentry school or apprenticeship may substitute for one year of experience.
• One-year verifiable heavy equipment experience (backhoe, excavator).
• Must possess NCCCO Certification with TSS and TLL.
• Ability to obtain Trenching, Confined Spaces, Fall Protection and Rigging Certifications.
• Possession of a valid Driver's License at time of hire; Class A CDL with tanker endorsement preferred or to be obtained within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Replaces decking, railings, bulkheads, wing walls, etc.
• Builds, repairs and replaces culverts, installs piping.
• Operates pickups, trucks, and other equipment; changes tires and performs minor repairs.
• Crane rigging and relief driver on crane.
• Prepares job site by placing signs and closing work areas.
• Builds and repairs fences along County Right of Way.
• Rebuilds and repairs timber and concrete bridges and related components.
• Installs concrete bulkhead plank and finishes forms for concrete work.
• Performs concrete work including box culverts and retaining walls.
• Forms, pours and finishes flatwork, sidewalks and curbs.
• Reads blueprints and project specifications.
