Summary: The Unit Manager Registered Nurse is responsible for directing the entire operation of a nursing unit in a long-term care healthcare facility.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; degree preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) (if state requires)
- Valid CPR teaching certificate, if applicable.
Experience:
- At least three years of nursing experience, including one year in a long-term care environment.
Job Functions:
- Perform general management functions such as hiring, disciplining, and evaluating employees.
- Plan and facilitate meetings and committees to address resident care issues.
- Manage the unit to achieve and maintain high-quality care.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate programs for staff recruitment, retention, and development.
- Coordinate with physicians and ensure timely interventions.
- Review staffing patterns and census, reassign personnel as needed to meet resident needs and budget.
- Monitor clinical operations and resident conditions, ensuring quality care.
- Obtain medications, supplies, and medical records necessary for safe, effective care.
- Assist in orientation and monitor staff skills and procedures.
- Participate in the facility’s quality assurance program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Strong leadership and motivational skills.

- Effective communication with residents, families, and staff.
- Knowledge of state and federal accreditation and certification requirements.
