Summary: The Unit Manager Registered Nurse is responsible for directing the entire operation of a nursing unit in a long-term care healthcare facility.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; degree preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) (if state requires)
  • Valid CPR teaching certificate, if applicable.

Experience:

  • At least three years of nursing experience, including one year in a long-term care environment.

Job Functions:

  • Perform general management functions such as hiring, disciplining, and evaluating employees.
  • Plan and facilitate meetings and committees to address resident care issues.
  • Manage the unit to achieve and maintain high-quality care.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs for staff recruitment, retention, and development.
  • Coordinate with physicians and ensure timely interventions.
  • Review staffing patterns and census, reassign personnel as needed to meet resident needs and budget.
  • Monitor clinical operations and resident conditions, ensuring quality care.
  • Obtain medications, supplies, and medical records necessary for safe, effective care.
  • Assist in orientation and monitor staff skills and procedures.
  • Participate in the facility’s quality assurance program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Excellent work assessment abilities.
  • Effective communication with residents, families, and staff.
  • Knowledge of state and federal accreditation and certification requirements.
