Clinical Interviewing- Yes, send to manager for 2nd interview
On Call, Call Back Requirements:Only low census. Could be placed on low census call for up to 36h per contract
Holiday Requirements:50% of holidays per contract
Floating Requirements: Could float and take patient assignment on other MedSurg units or anywhere in the hospital MedSurg patients are located, including ER hold, ICU, etc. Will only take a MedSurg patient assignment

- Beds: 100
Unit Information:
- Beds: 28
- Census: Average patients/day: 20-22
Minimum Years of Experience required: 1 year MedSurg/Tele experience
- Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- Mostly geriatric patients
- Cardiac: CHF, chest pain obs. No Cath Lab on site. If patient needs cath, will be transferred to St. Luke s MC.
- Neuro: seizure obs, stroke obs, TIA vs. stroke rule out, altered mental status
- General Medical: COPD, respiratory/kidney/liver/GI issues
Patient Ratios:
- RN:
- Days: 1:4-5
- Nights: 1:6-7, can go up to 1:8, but not common
- CNA:
Required License, National Certification, Certs:
- RN: BLS, NIHSS; ACLS preferred
- CNA: BLS
Skills required:
- RN: Experience with above patient types, NG tube placement/management, foley placement/management, chest tube management, Pleurex and other drains, wound care, central line/ports/midline blood draws, cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Drips (possible to titrate within set parameters): Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, insulin
- CNA: assist with ambulation, patient ADLs, vitals, I/O, blood sugar checks. Can remove peripheral IVs
Support within the Department:
- Charge RN will take reduced patient assignment
- HUC until 2300
- Phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws
- RT 24/7
- Hospitalist 24/7
- OT/PT/ST during the day
- Centralized tele monitoring with tele techs, central monitor also at the nurse s station
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Med dispensing: Pyxis
- Monitors:
- Unit specific equipment: different lifts for patients, including ceiling lift
Floating: If yes, where:
- Could float and take patient assignment on other MedSurg units or anywhere in the hospital MedSurg patients are located, including ER hold, ICU, etc. Will only take a MedSurg patient assignment
Orientation (facility and unit) :
- NEO
- One 12h shift on the unit to learn the flow
Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: Every other
- On call: Only low census. Could be placed on low census call for up to 36h per contract
- Holiday Expectations: 50% of holidays per contract
- Approval of RTO: to go through manager
- Shift times: 0700-1930, 1900-0730
- Schedule cycle: Manager makes schedule in 6-week increments and released around 3-weeks prior to schedule beginning

- Unit Culture: currently working on culture and engagement. There is a lot of work being done on the unit. The teams work well together and are supportive of one another
