Description:The Surgical/Trauma ICU is a fast-paced 15-bed intensive care unit.This unit specializes in surgical and trauma adult critical care patients.The surgical critical care team manages post-operative patients needing continuous monitoring.The trauma critical care team manages patients with multisystem traumatic injuries.Patients in this unit often have multi-system conditions.Critical care nurses must be highly skilled in assessing and managing care.Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2, varying based on patient acuity.Staffing includes interdisciplinary support from various services.Special skills include arterial line management, chest tube care, and blood product administration.Nurses are expected to interpret arterial blood gases and manage ventilated patients.Floating within the scope of practice may be required as needed.Passengers must comply with all standard hospital policies.
