Job Description

The Progressive Care Unit is an 18-bed, high-acuity, fast-paced unit that provides care for patients requiring a higher level of monitoring and intervention than traditional telemetry units, yet does not necessitate ICU-level care. The nurse-to-patient ratio typically stands at 1:3, determined by patient acuity, and the unit experiences significant patient turnover, with as much as three-quarters of the unit turning over within a 24-hour period.

Nurses on the PCU will engage with a diverse, medically complex patient population, including those who have undergone:

• Cardiac catheterization
• Myocardial infarction (MI) interventions
• Cardiac stent placement
• Cardiac ablation
• TAVR procedures
• Watchman procedures
• Stable post-open-heart surgery after line removal
• Transvenous pacemaker management
• Respiratory failure with BiPAP
• Insulin drip administration
• Multiple organ failure cases
• Alcohol and drug withdrawal patients

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will be responsible for:

• Managing high-acuity patients in a busy environment
• Efficiently handling a 1:3 nurse-to-patient assignment
• Adapting to frequent admissions, transfers, and patient downgrades

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• Experience in a Progressive Care Unit or similar high-acuity environment

Certifications/Licensure

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
• Active Pennsylvania RN license or Compact RN license
• BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications required
