Job summary

SoftPath Medical in Shelby, NC is seeking an experienced RN for our PCU unit. The 32-bed unit operates as a Level 3 Trauma Center with chest pain and stroke centers, supported by a 24/7 hospitalist and intensivist team.

Responsibilities include cardiac drip management, rhythm interpretation, chest tube care, central line care, and blood product administration, with typical 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratios. Requires 18 months PCU RN experience, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and ability to float regionally.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage cardiac drips and monitor rhythm interpretation.
• Provide chest tube and central line care.
• Administer blood products and perform wound care/dressing changes.

• 241 licensed beds
• Level 3 Trauma Center
• Not a Teaching Hospital
• Certified Chest Pain Center
• Stroke Center

Unit Information

• Beds: 32
• Minimum Experience Required: 18 months PCU RN experience
• First-time travelers accepted

Patient Types and Common Diagnoses

Patients may include those not requiring mechanical ventilation, such as CHF, dysrhythmia, chest pain workup, stroke, abdominal illnesses and infections, respiratory illness, diabetes, AKI/CKD, alcohol withdrawal, IV drug abuse, and others.

Patient Ratios

RN to patient ratio is typically 1:4; may increase to 1:5 depending on patient acuity.

Floating Requirements

Floating is required within the region and scope of practice. Floating to all facilities within the region may be necessary; candidates not agreeable to floating should decline.

Floating compensation

If floating mid-shift, travel time between facilities will be compensated and remain on the clock.

Orientation

• New Employee Orientation (NEO)
• Two days of departmental orientation

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation: every other weekend
• No on-call duties
• Holiday work expectation: 75% of holidays
• Request time off (RTO): Up to 6 days off approved excluding holidays; additional time off requires contract extension to meet hours
• Schedule cycles every 6 weeks
