Job summary

SoftPath Medical seeks an RN for MedSurg/Tele in Albemarle, NC, caring for stroke, COPD, chest pain, and post-surgical patients. RN provides assessments, medication administration, IV starts, and wound/drain management with a focus on safety and patient advocacy.

Role requires BLS/ACLS/NIHSS, 18 months Med/Surg Tele experience, and the ability to float regionally. Floating to multiple facilities within the region is expected and travel time is paid.

Qualifications

• Stroke experience and NIHSS assessments required.
• PIV starts, trach care, and chest tube management capabilities.
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation and medication drip management including Heparin.

Responsibilities

• Provide Med/Surg/Tele nursing care for acute stroke/COPD/Chest Pain patients.
• Perform NICU? (placeholder)
• Float within region per policy and travel to multiple facilities as needed.

• Licensed Beds: 109
• No Trauma Designation
• Not a Teaching Hospital – no residents or students
• Advanced Primary Stroke Center
• Radius rule: Traveler’s permanent address must be at least 50 miles outside of the home unit

• Beds: 27
• Average Census: 20
• Minimum Experience Required: 18 months Med/Tele experience
• First-time travelers: Not preferred, but will be considered (Resource Team)

Patient Ratios

• RN: 1:5-6, acuity dependent
• Surge staffing may increase ratios up to 1:7-8

Required Skills

• General Med/Tele skillset: Stroke experience/NIH assessments, chest tube management, PIV starts, trach care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, Foley insertion/management), PCA pumps
• Medication drip management including: Cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IV fluids

Department Support

• CNA: Yes; CNAs can insert Foley catheters if certified and remove IVs for discharge if certified, in addition to vitals, ADLs, etc.
• Receptionist/HUC: Dayshift only
• Charge Nurse: May or may not have patient assignment
• Phlebotomy: Available 24/7
• No designated IV/VAT Team
• Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
• Hospitalist: Available 24/7
• Telemetry Monitoring/Tech: Yes

Floating

• Floating is required within the region and scope of practice.
• Travelers must be willing to float to all facilities within the region as needed.
• Decline if not agreeable.
• Region includes multiple facilities such as Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (including main and specialty hospitals). Floating may occur mid-shift, and travel time between facilities will be paid.
