Job summary

SoftPath Medical is seeking an experienced RN for MedSurg/Tele travel assignment in Charlotte, NC. You will provide comprehensive Med/Surg and Telemetry care for adults and geriatrics, with emphasis on stroke and cardiac care. You’ll collaborate with CNAs, RTs, and hospitalists to ensure smooth patient flow and safety.

The role requires a valid RN license, BLS/ACLS/NIHSS, and 2 years of Med/Surg/Tele experience. Floating within the region is required; shift patterns include 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am.

Qualifications

• 2 years Med/Tele RN experience required.
• Required licenses: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
• First-time traveler consideration (Resource Team) per unit policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide Med/Surg and Telemetry care for adults and geriatrics.
• Perform neuro/cardiac tasks including rhythm interpretation and device management.
• Collaborate with CNA, RT, secretary, charge nurse and hospitalist to coordinate patient care.

Unit Information

ADTU and Satellite unit consist of 5 med-surg and med-tele units focused on decompressing the Emergency Department and other specialty areas within the hospital.

Beds:

• 6CD ADTU - 19 beds
• Satellite Units – 34 beds total:
  • 3K - 8 beds
  • 5A - 12 beds
  • 3L - 7 beds
  • 1T – 7 beds

Minimum Experience Required

2 years Med/Tele RN experience (Resource Team)

First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered (Resource Team)

• Adults and Geriatrics
• Common diagnoses include COPD exacerbation, Pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, Falls with injuries, MVC with injuries, Pulmonary embolism, DVT, UTI, Pneumothorax, GI bleeds, CVA

Required Licenses and Certifications

Skills Required

Med/Tele RN: General Med/Tele skillset including stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, Foley insertion/management), PCA pumps. Medication drip management including: Cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IV fluids.

Department Support

• CNA: Complete vitals, blood sugars, provide hygiene care (daily baths, change treatments, toileting, oral care, hair care), rounding, assist with patient needs, linen changes. CNA+4 can remove IVs, prime IV tubing, prime tube feeds, and insert/remove Foley catheters.
• Secretary: Supports main unit by answering phones, call bells, directing calls, creating and breaking down charts, stocking office supplies, ordering STAT supplies, and quality checking glucometers.
• Charge Nurse: Available on main unit to assist all units within ADTU.
• Phlebotomy: Available 24/7 for peripheral blood draws.
• IV/VAT Team: Available 24/7.
• Resource Nurse: Long-term contract nurses available within the department to collaborate with.
• Respiratory Therapist (RT): Available 24/7.
• Hospitalist: Assigned to patients and reachable 7am-7pm; cross-cover hospitalist available 7pm-7am.
• Intensivist: Available 24/7.
• Telemetry Monitoring – No Telemetry Technician: Nurses on each unit monitor telemetry; primary nurse completes interpretation each shift. Charge nurse on main unit assists with telemetry monitoring.

Floating

Floating is required within the region and scope of practice. Travelers must be willing to float to all facilities within the assigned region as needed. Decline if not agreeable. If floating mid-shift, travelers will be paid for travel time between facilities and remain on the clock.

Regions

Region 1

Includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (Main hospital + Mercy + Pediatric hospital). Floating may occur to any facility within this region.

Region 2

Includes Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, Central Division (Main hospital + Mercy + Pediatric hospital).

Region 3

Includes Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, Central Division (Main hospital + Mercy + Pediatric hospital).

Orientation

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation: every other weekend
• No on-call required
• Holiday expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
• Request Time Off (RTO): Up to 6 days off can be approved excluding holidays; time off must be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met
• Shift times: 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am
• Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
