Job summary

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia, or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
  • AHA BLS‑HCP required; may need BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific work unit.
  • Computer skills required for electronic medical records (EPIC).

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for all ages, developing age‑specific interdisciplinary care plans.
  • Administer treatments and medications accurately, documenting in electronic medical records.
  • Identify patient and caregiver educational needs and incorporate them into care plans.
  • Collaborate with team members, patients, and families to adjust plans based on changes in status.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and provider of psychological, social, and cultural support.
  • Use knowledge of growth and development to guide patient care.
  • Participate in evidence‑based quality improvement and practice initiatives.
  • Plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, and resource consumption while improving outcomes.
  • Model clinical practice and mentor staff, students, and physicians.
  • Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet care needs.
  • Complete manager/director projects within timelines and guidelines.
  • Apply problem‑solving methods to resolve patient and personnel situations.
  • Assist in the orientation of new employees and provide feedback through appropriate communication.
  • Participate in unit, hospital, and system activities to facilitate staff participation in decision making.
  • Support educational activities for the unit/department.
