Job Overview

This role leads the provision of patient care using the nursing process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses and Scope & Standards of Practice. The leader delegates, directs, and assists licensed and ancillary team members, ensuring quality patient outcomes, cultural sensitivity, and alignment with unit and departmental goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Effectively use the nursing process in the delivery of patient care.
  • Assess learning needs and implement appropriate teaching strategies for diverse patients, families, and interdisciplinary groups.
  • Communicate, delegate, and manage nursing team resources, serving as a leader and partner on the interdisciplinary team.
  • Use data and information to evaluate and promote change for optimal outcomes.
  • Embrace concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction, employee morale, and professional nursing improvement.
  • Adapt behavior to specific patient populations, including privacy respect, proper introduction, tailored explanations of services, and appropriate communication styles.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements; ensure compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Immediately report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors, patient/employee safety, privacy, or other compliance concerns in accordance with the Compliance & Privacy Program.
Qualifications
Education Required

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Education Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Work Experience Required

None.

Certifications Required

Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Certifications Preferred

Certification in clinical specialty area.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Heavy work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for sedentary work. The role may require walking or standing to a significant degree; it may also involve sitting most of the time while pushing or pulling materials or operating arm or leg controls. In an industrial setting, maintaining a production pace may be physically demanding even with negligible weight.

Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, and potential communicable diseases due to direct patient contact and specimen handling. Occupational exposure risks include hazardous medications, hazardous waste, and contaminated waste during receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and disposal.
