Description:General information about the unit:The unit has 60 beds and employs 50 staff members.Day shift includes 1 Charge Nurse per floor, RNs, LVNs, PCTs, and a unit secretary when scheduling allows.Night shift includes 1 Charge Nurse per floor, RNs, LVNs, and PCTs.Patient ratios are 5:1 on the Medical-Surgical specialty floor and 6:1 on another floor.The unit is equipped with remote telemetry, capnography, Alaris IV pumps, glucometers, and dynamaps.The electronic medical record system used is Alterra.The typical hiring profile emphasizes strong skills in telemetry and medical-surgical nursing.Candidates without these skills will not be considered for the role.Preferred skills include cardiac recognition and IV starts.Time management is essential for this position.Typical procedures performed on the unit include abdominal surgeries such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and colectomy.Diagnostic procedures include paracentesis, thoracentesis, and heart catheterizations.Other procedures include gastric sleeves and total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements.Ortho trauma repairs (fractures) are also performed on the unit.The ideal candidate will be team-oriented, positive, and flexible.Floating may be required to other areas as needed including inpatient rehabilitation, emergency department, and progressive care unit.Assignments will not exceed the nurse's skill level or scope of practice.Weekend shifts are required, but there is no on-call duty.Attendance policy will be enforced regarding shifts.Dress code includes black scrubs, transitioning to Medical City Blue scrubs.Unit policies and guidelines are in place for staff adherence.
