This RN Medsurg role is on our Oncology Unit here at Cobb Hospital.

Shift: 7pm-7am - 36 hour week.

Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment that is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence-based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values.

All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected that the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures, while supporting service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in clinical care using evidence-based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and individualized care; coordinates care through effective partnerships recognizing caring as central to optimal patient outcomes.
  • Provides relationship-based patient-centered care that reflects understanding of cultural diversity, adapting service delivery accordingly.
  • Partners with patients and significant others using methods like bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, patient teaching, and updates, focusing on patient goals.
  • Practices according to current clinical standards.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care, promoting a respectful, inclusive environment and effective interdisciplinary communication.
  • Demonstrates teamwork by practicing responsibly and supporting recruitment and retention of healthcare staff.
  • Supports performance improvement activities, research, and shared governance to promote safe, quality care.

Professional Development and Initiative

  • Completes professional competency assessments and mandatory education.
  • Serves as preceptor or mentor to ensure a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment.

Evidence-Based Practice and Research

  • Promotes evidence-based practice, research, and performance improvement activities.
  • Adheres to healthcare policies, standards, and legal/regulatory requirements, including safety goals.
  • Participates in data collection, formulates clinical questions, and uses evidence to improve practice.

Resources and Support

  • Plans for patient care across the continuum during direct care.
  • Contributes to protocol development to improve outcomes like readmission rates and adverse events.
  • Supports efficient resource utilization.

Performs other duties as assigned and complies with organizational policies and standards.

Minimum Education

  • Associates or Bachelors in Nursing (preferred).

Minimum Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), instructor certification preferred.

Experience

  • Less than 1 year, completion of accredited nursing program with clinical hours required.
